Admission Requirements by Program

Doctor of Nursing Practice

The program will require specific admission requirements above and beyond the ones currently required by the University.

Admission requirements for the DNP include:

  • Master's degree in Nursing from a regionally accredited institution and program accredited by the NLNAC or CCNE
  • Active national certification in one of the following APRN roles: NE-BC, NEA-BC, CNM, CNS, CRNA, or NP (copy of actual certificate is required). Certification waives 3 credit hours of the 9 required residency hours. CRNA waives an additional 3 credit hours of residency.
  • Minimum graduate GPA of 3.30
  • Current licensure as a Registered Nurse or advanced practice registered nurse in the candidate's state of practice (copy of actual licensure is required)
  • Current resume or curriculum vitae; and
  • Two (2) letters of reference, preferably one professional and one academic, which address clinical skills and academic ability.
  • A completed Enrollment Selection Form


  • Active license to practice registered nursing in the applicant's state of residence
  • Nursing degree from a nationally accredited nursing program (Not sure about the nursing accreditation? Check here)
  • Satisfy UNF General Education & Gordon Rule requirements by one of the following*:
  • Minimum overall undergraduate GPA of at least 2.80; and
  • Completion of all BSN nursing prerequisite courses with no grade lower than "C" .
  • A completed Enrollment Selection Form

*Students may finish an Associate of Arts (A.A.) degree at UNF or another FL state school to satisfy UNF General Education & Gordon Rule requirements while enrolled in the RN to BSN curriculum. Prior to admission, a nursing online program coordinator will work with students on creating a pre-approved plan for completion. However, all missing requirements must be completed by the end of the fourth (4th) part-of-term enrollment period to continue in the program. Transient enrollment requests will be required for courses taken at another institution while enrolled at UNF. Confirmation of enrollment in, or plans for, the remaining courses needed to complete these requirements at another regionally accredited institution must be submitted to The confirmation letter should include:

  1. Courses remaining to complete the degree.
  2. Expected completion date.
  3. Advisor's signature.

The confirmation letter must be on the institution's official letterhead; please contact for a template.

Students with an Associate of Science (A.S./A.S.N.) from a regionally accredited institution and nationally accredited nursing program are encouraged to apply. These transcripts (excluding NUR courses) will be evaluated for transfer credit and adjusted GPA.

Note that while a foreign language is not required for admission to the online RN to BSN cohorts, it must be satisfied by the end of the fourth (4th) part-of-term in order to graduate.
